Orange & Ginger Guinea Fowl

Orange & Ginger Guinea Fowl

Guinea Fowl which was originally a game bird, but now farmed are available all year round. It has somewhere between chicken and pheasant and can be bought in most supermarkets.

If however you either don't fancy Guinea Fowl or find it hard to buy then use a medium jointed chicken instead.


  • Guinea fowl which needs to be jointed
  • 400g tin of chopped tomatoes
  • 150ml of fresh orange juice
  • 500g of butternut squash, cubed
  • red onion, roughly chopped
  • 500g potatoes, cubed
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 tbsp orange peel, grated
  • 1 green paper, chopped
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • water
  • 2 chicken stockpots or stock cubes


  1. Place the jointed Guinea Fowl in the inner pot.
  2. Add the tin of chopped tomatoes.
  3. Pour in the fresh orange juice
  4. Add the cubed butter nut squash and the roughly chopped red onion
  5. Add the cubed potatoes.
  6. Add the two crushed garlic cloves.
  7. Sprinkle over the grated orange peel.
  8. Add the chopped green pepper and the ground ginger.
  9. Now cover everything in the in the pot with water and add the chicken stock pots or stock cubes.
  10. Turn on the heat and bring to the boil.
  11. When it has come to the boil turn down the heat and let it simmer for five minutes.
  12. Turn off the heat and place the inner pot into the insulated outer container.
  13. Shut the lid and leave to cook for a minimum of three hours without power. You can leave it longer if you wish.
  14. Serve on a bed of rice for the perfect evening meal.
